Field trip:  Our class has the Ronald McDonald House  as its mission. If you are not familiar with this organization.  It is a place where families can stay while their child is receiving care at a local hospital. Our class will either clean some of the apartments where these people stay or do yardwork outside. It is amazing how the students come back feeling quite rewarded for helping out families in dire need.  Our field trip is scheduled for Feb. 3 from 9:30-11:30.

 Reading:  Underwater Adventures (1/9) Katie’s Trunk (1/9)

Math:   Worksheet #9(1/9) Pages 180 and 181 (1/11) Page 202 (1/12)

English:  Practice Book page 171 (1/12)

We have had a good week despite some illnesses and Daniel chipping his two front teeth! Enjoy your MLK holiday! Hopefully you will do something fun with your family!

We are looking forward to Kristen’s devotions next week!

Memory verse:  Those who plan what is good find love and faithfulness.    Prov. 14:22  The students are also to write what the verse means to them in their own words. Many students are losing points because they are not doing this.

Bible:  Our next booklet is entitled “Test, Cheat, Shredded Sheet”. Please read the booklet and sign it by Friday, the 20th.  There will also be a memory verse and Bible test on Friday.

State stuff:  At the present time, we are simply gathering up information. Each student has a blue state book and a packet that coincides with the information in the book. Their job is to read the book and apply the information to the packet. I teach how to write each section, so it is best that they don’t work ahead. If they don’t finish a section in class, that is homework.  Presently we have finished the “Introduction”, The Almanac, and History section.  We are also doing mini reports in the computer lab. The Historical Figure page is due on Thursday. The more they know about their state, ahead of time, the  better they will be able to write their report which will begin in Feb. Watch for the information to come.

Spelling:  The practice book pages for this week are 191-193. You will find the spelling words on page 417 under Voices of the Revolution Spelling Review

Science:  Students now have a notebook in which to do all their work. All homework needs to be done in this book. Since grades are posted every Tuesday, I will be grading their notebooks on Mondays. Therefore all corrections need to be done on the weekends to get full credit for assignment.

Mammal Report update: Students chose their 3 top choices for their mammal report. I will verify the mammal is appropriate for our goals for this project. Each student will get their verified choice on Monday. My goals for this project:

  • Reinforce  the selection of good websites and information
  • Learn more about a mammal they are not currently familiar with
  • Build awareness of endangered animals
  • Recognize man’s responsibilities as stewards of God’s creation

Accelerated Reader Expectations:

First  of all, a big WOW! to Kayla and Katie for reaching 100%! Jasmine isn’t too far behind!  Keep up the excellent work!

9 December 2011

Dear Parents,

Hello and Merry Christmas! We have wonderful news, Mrs. Kennicutt is out of the hospital and is doing well. She plans on returning after Christmas break. So that means that you have me for another week. Ho! Ho! Ho!

Mrs. Rowley will be in the classroom on Monday. I will be taking my 4th graders on a field trip to the Maidu Center.

Upcoming Classroom Events:

Math : Introduction to Chapter 5 – Division

There will be no memory verse for this week. They have done a super job memorizing Luke 2.

Christmas Party: We will be having a Christmas Party on the last day of school, Friday, December 16th. The children have voted on Pizzas, juice, and dessert. I love simple. There will be no gift exchange. We are going to clean desks, play games, eat and be jolly.

Book, Pillow, and Slipper Read: You might remember this from last year. The kids would like to bring their slippers, comfy pillow, and favorite book(s) to read on Wednesday. We will get all comfortable and read for about 30 minutes or so. If your child would like to bring a blanket to put on the floor that would be fine.

            13 December – ECC Christmas Program 6:30

            16 December – Minimum Day

17 Dec – 2 January – Christmas Holiday – school and daycare closed

Have a wonderful weekend. God has so blessed us. We need to remember the “Jesus is the reason for the season.”

5th Grade News

Dear Parents,

Great news! Mrs. Kennicutt will be back on board and in the classroom starting Monday, December 5th. I wanted to thank you for your patience and for giving me the opportunity to once again be with my “little dumplings!”

Upcoming Events: Thursday, December 8th – Elementary Christmas Program

                                                                         Time: 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.

Please have your child meet Mrs. Kennicutt in the Fellowship Hall at 6:20. Daniel McGlone and Geno Little will need to be in the Fellowship Hall at 6:10 to get into costume.  Sunday School dress is what we are asking the children to wear. If you are not planning on attending the program, let Mrs. Kennicutt know as soon as possible. Thanks

Christmas Party with the Buddies: We will be partying with the buddies on Friday, December 9th. We will be having a “Sock” exchange. Christmas socks would be fun, however it is not a must. If you have any questions, Mrs. K will be here on Monday.

Have a great weekend. May God wrap His loving arms around you and keep you in His loving care.

Doris Dahle
