April 2nd – 6th – Holy Week April 6th – Good Friday – School Closes at 12:00 p.m., Day Care Open April 8th - Easter April 9 – 13th – Easter Vacation – NO SCHOOL or DAY CARE April 16th – School Resumes
Holy Week Each year, our school celebrates Holy Week with our students. We explain what the Bible tells us about Jesus’ last week. We begin the week with a palm procession and end at the flag pole, singing “Hosanna”. We see the movie, “The Three Trees” which talks about the manger where Jesus was placed as a baby, the ship that Jesus was in while he calmed the storm, and the cross that he was crucified on. We have a Sedar meal, explaining the purpose for each food during the Last Supper, we have quiet prayer time to represent Jesus in the garden of Gethsemene, and finally, we have a cross activity for the whole school and end our week with a Good Friday chapel service. This was a very important week in Jesus’ life and in ours. Your children should be able to share some of these activities with you.
NEW FRIDAY NOTE PROCEDURE: Beginning today, we will no longer be sending home a paper Friday note. You will need a password to get to the Sycamore sight. There was a workshop a month or so ago. So, if you missed the workshop you will need to go to the office to get your password and can assist you with your questions regarding Sycamore. As your children grow and go on to other classes, their grades and other important information will be found on Sycamore. Parent hour forms are only on Sycamore at this time. Make sure you are able to navigate the site and ask questions if you need help.
Activities in the Teddy Bear room This week, we learned about farm animals. We painted food for hens, we made cows in the corn, which followed the story we read about cows and we created a farmer’s market.
Snack Providing snack is a great way to earn parent hours. Every hour you spend and every $10 you spend count towards your parent hours. You may sign up on our snack calendar with your name and the two items you will be bringing, or you can drop off snack items any day and we will prepare them for the children. There is a snack suggestion list in the back of the Preschool Handbook. I will put a few of the lists on the counter if you would like one. When providing snack, we ask for two items and enough to feed about 40 children. Warm items like macaroni and cheese in a crockpot are favorites with the children. Please ask us if you have any questions.
Clothing Please remember to send heavy, thick, winter coats, hats and mittens with your child. Our recesses last about 25 minutes and if it is not raining, we try to go outside and run. This is a long time for children who only have a sweatshirt with them. If your child needed to borrow clothes from our preschool, please wash them and return them. They would have an “ECC” written on them. We are missing several pair of khaki pants and a few sweatshirts, socks and underwear.

Activities in the Teddy Bear room This week, we learned all about pets. We followed a dirty dog named Harry, on a wonderful adventure. He did not like to take a bath and enjoyed being dirty. On Friday, we treated our pets (stuffed animals) to a day at the spa. They really had a great time.

Activities This week, the Teddy Bears had fun decorating, creating, giving and receiving valentines. We celebrated part of the morning with our fourth grade buddies. We ate our snack with them and mad cute little mouse puppets. On Wednesday, we shared a special day with our families, attending Chapel and spending time in our classroom, creating a scrapbook page about our family. If you did not get to participate on Wednesday, we would still like you to decorate a page for our Early Childhood Center Family Album. Please ask one of the teachers for supplies.
Community Helpers Month We have had several parents and grandparents share about their occupations this month. Last week, Martin’s mother, Dr. Po talked to us about being a Dentist. She showed us how to brush our teeth and about the importance of eating good food. She brought everyone a new toothbrush and some coloring pages. The children were very attentive. Ask them about her presentation. If you would like to share your occupation with our class, please ask Mrs. Rowland or Mrs. Puccinelli and we can schedule a convienient time and incorporate your occupation into our lesson plans.

Activities This week, the Teddy Bears learned about nutrition. Mrs. Houser came and explained what nurses do and helped us learn about healthy food for our bodies. She even provided a wonderful and healthy snack. The children were given plastic gloves and masks that are used in the hospital and doctor’s offices. She donated a medical kit for our dramatic play area. We created a night scene with moon and stars for our letter “N”. We painted with marbles and created our Valentine’s bags for our special day on Tuesday. Valentine’s Day – (There are 16 children and 6 teachers.) We will celebrate Valentine’s Day on Tuesday, February 14th. Please have your child attempt to write their own name on each Valentine, but please leave the “To:” empty. They will place their own in all of the children’s bag and it is better to just say who it is from. Having them write their own name on each one is great practice. Remember to have them use an upper case letter for the first letter of their name and the rest in lower case.
You can add a treat, like a piece of candy if you would like. Please do not include any candy that has nuts in it or that is manufactured in a factory that produces nuts.
Family Appreciation Day Wednesday, February 15th is Family Appreciation Day. Your family is invited to attend chapel in the Sanctuary with us and come into our classroom for about an hour after chapel. If you sign your child in, please wait and walk with us to chapel. We will be creating a family scrapbook for our classroom. Each family will create their own page. Please bring a copy of a family picture, a family Bible verse that can either be typed out and printed before you arrive, or you may write it on the page during class time. The page will be about 11 by 11 inches. We will provide the white sheet of paper and have some stickers and items to add. Please feel free to bring whatever you may want to add to your page. We have glue sticks for your use. The invitation that was sent home mentioned a family interview. We will just ask for the family names to be written on the page. We will also be serving refreshments and look forward to a wonderful day, celebrating our families. If you cannot be here on Wednesday, please let me know (preferably by e-mail) and I will send home the paper for you to create at home. The finished book will stay in our Early Childhood Center for the children to enjoy.
