7th Grade News

St. Peter’s seventh grade class exists in order to grow in our Christian values, advance in our education, and improve our socialization skills. We will achieve these goals by following the Laws of the Bible, working hard at our studies, and being supportive of our peers.

 

 

   

February 21st-24th

Speech Meet is Friday. I have given your child more than 7 hours of class time to memorize their speech. They need to know the whole speech by Friday. They will be graded on this.

Language Arts:             We are continuing to work on our Pirate Report. They must have their opening paragraph done by Wednesday. The first draft of their report is due March 1st. They will have time in class to work on this. If they waste their class time, they may have to work on it at home.

                In addition, your child will have a pirate project every few weeks. This is an at home project. The second choice sheet will go home on Tuesday.

            Instead of grammar this week, we will focus on our speeches for Speech Meet.

 

Math:    We will finishing up  our study of Chapter 7- 2-step equations and Inequalities.  

 

Your child   DID/DID NOT   complete their Homeconnect Math Facts this week.

 

Bible:  There will be no Bible verse quiz this week- so that all of their memory can be focused on their speeches. We will be focusing on the book of Proverbs.

 

Latin: It’s Alive! ALIIIIIVVVVEEE! We were back in the lab this week. Your child has completed _________ of the 4 tests I will require for this trimester. Latin Lab is available after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

 

Science: 7th grade will be presenting on their slice of geologic time on Tuesday.  The test for chapter 8 will be on Friday.

 

History:  Our study of the Middle Ages continues as students role play life on a manor and design a fief.

February 13-17th

Family Appreciation Chapel is Wednesday at 8:40-10:30. All parents/grandparents/family friends are welcome to attend chapel and then a project back in the classroom. Don’t forget to have your child bring in a family story, copy of a picture, and a family Bible verse on Monday.          

                On Thursday, Carpenters Tool International will be on campus. All are welcome to join us in praise with CTI at 9am and/or 2pm.

Thank you for the massive amount of baby wipes! We collected over 430 packages!

On Wednesday, we will be going to Loaves Fishes to drop off the wipes. Please make sure your child wears their blue shirt and has money for lunch.

Math:    We have finished our study of Chapter 6 and will have an exam on Wednesday. Every child must have a calculator in class.

 

Bible:  Bible verse for the week is Lamentations 3:22-23. They must know the verse, location, author, and meaning for Friday’s quiz.  Next week, we will focus on our buddies- reading to them; create 100 day stories for them, etc…

 

Latin: Our Latin Program is on the fritz. We will replace our study of Latin with speech meet for the time being.

 

Science: We spent a little extra time on chapter 7, and the test has been moved to Tuesday, 2/7.  There will be an after school study session on Monday, 2/6.

 

History:  The Chapter 8 test will be given on Tuesday. This will be an open note test designed to summarize the main ideas of the chapter. We will organize our notes in class on Monday. On Wednesday students will began an interactive unit exploring life in the Middle Ages.

Language Arts:             On Monday, your child will choose which pirate they will write about for their research report. By Friday, they will need to have AT LEAST 3 sources copied and ready to go for class. PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THE BOOKSTORE OR LIBRARY TO GET BOOKS! I have plenty of pirate sources here at school and your child will have access to the lab at school to find on-line sources. Your child will need at least one book source and one periodical (magazine or dictionary). They may not use Wikipedia. They may use on-line periodicals. I have attached report time line for reference at home.

                In grammar, we are focusing on my favorite part of speech! Prepositions! YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!

                We are also beginning Speech Meet. Your child must find and have a piece approved by me by Wednesday. We will be practicing our speeches at school.

 

Math:    We are continuing our study of chapter 6.

Science: We will be wrapping up chapter 7, The Age of Earth.  Our test will be on Thursday, 2/7.

 

History:  Chapter 8 continues with a study of Shogun and samurai. The test on Chapter 8 will be given on Tuesday, 2/7.

Language Arts:             We will begin to learn about plagiarism- the steps it takes to rewrite information in our own words. After we study plagiarism, each child will sign a form stating they understand what it is and how to avoid it. Plagiarizing work is not tolerated at St. Peter’s.  We will be done with this report by the 31st. We will then begin our research report on pirates. Arrrrggghhhhhh!

 

Math:    On Monday, we will play the games the children created in class. The remainder of the week will be focused on Chapter 6, rates and proportions.

History:  Chapter 8 begins with the geography of Japan. Students will then look at various aspects of Japanese culture. The homework for next week will be a study of Chapter 8 vocabulary. Look for the assignment to come home on Monday, 1/23.

Language Arts:              We are continuing to write our Poe report. We have finished researching the author, read our materials, and are now creating an outline.  We will be done with this project in the next two weeks.

                In grammar, we will begin to focus on adverbs.

 

Math:    We finished chapter 5 this week. The exam will be on Tuesday, 1/17. Starting on Wednesday, the 18th, the children will create a board game showcasing the concepts they have learned in chapters 1-5. I will provide the board, dice, and game tokens. If they will need any other items for their project, they will need to provide it. This is an in class assignment and a rubric went home. On my Sycamore web page, there is an additional copy of the rubric.

January 9-13th

This month, the middle school will be collecting baby wipes to donate to Loaves and Fishes Homeless Shelter in Sacramento. I would like each of my seventh graders to EARN the money necessary to pay for the wipes themselves. Please discuss with your child a way they could earn the money to purchase the item. On Monday, I will ask each child their plan.

Language Arts:              We have begun the process of writing our first research report, which is on the author Edgar Allan Poe. This will be done at school. This process will be a step-by-step instruction on how to write a report.  Everybody’s report will look the same, so they will earn 1 of 3 possible grades: A (they followed directions and have all of the required materials), C (they followed most of the directions and have some of the required materials), or F (Were they aware that we had school?).  The children have been given a Poe folder, with all necessary materials, and it is their job to stay organized.

                In grammar, we are focusing on adjectives. There will be an exam covering nouns, pronouns, verbs, and adjectives on Thursday.

 

Math:    We will be finishing up chapter 5 this week. The exam will be on Tuesday, 1/17. Starting on Wednesday, the 18th, the children will create a board game showcasing the concepts they have learned in chapters 1-5. I will provide the board, dice, and game tokens. On Thursday, December 15th, we will be decorating cookies with our 1st grade buddies. This year, we are in charge of bringing in UNFROSTED sugar cookies , apple juice, and cups.  We DO NOT exchange gift with our buddies, but do give them homemade cards and candy canes. Your child volunteered to bring in ______________________ by Tuesday, December 13th.

 

 

On Friday, we are going to have a SMALL potluck and game day. Your child volunteered to bring in _______________ on Friday.

                In addition to learning about Poe and research reports, we will finish reading the screen play to A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens and watch the film version on Thursday.

Science: Students will be applying the principles of natural selection to different animals of the Channel Islands to see if they are fit for survival.   

 

History:  The African county project is due on Tuesday. Students will develop games using the vocabulary of Chapters 5 and 6.

Math:    We will finish chapter 4, factoring and divisibility.  There will be an exam on Wednesday. Children may now bring and use a scientific calculator. I recommend the Texan Instrument TI-30xa. It cost about $10 and can be purchased at Target, Walmart, Staples, etc… Do not spend more than $15 on a calculator, please.

We have finished studying the books of Exodus through Deuteronomy and will have an exam on Wednesday.  A study guide went home already.
