7th Grade News

St. Peter’s seventh grade class exists in order to grow in our Christian values, advance in our education, and improve our socialization skills. We will achieve these goals by following the Laws of the Bible, working hard at our studies, and being supportive of our peers.

***On Friday, we will be having a Good Friday celebration with our buddies. We need three families to volunteer to bring cut fruit, three families to volunteer to bring cookies, and three families to volunteer to bring juice. These donations count towards Parent Hours. Please let me know by Wednesday if you can volunteer any of the above items. Thank you. ***

 

Language Arts:             We will begin to write our Present Papers next week. Your child will have one computer session to work on this paper. They will need to finish it over Easter break (3-5 pages typed). First draft is due 4/16. 

            In grammar, we will finish studying conjunctions and interjections. There will be an exam on Thursday.

 

Math:    We are studying geometric shapes and angles. There is a lot of vocabulary in the chapter. Please encourage your child to refer to their notes if they get stuck.

Bible:  This week, we will finish our study of the books of the Bible. For Friday’s quiz, they must know all 66 books of the Bible. We will practice by singing a song. We are putting the Bullying curriculum on hold next week to study the Easter story.

 

Latin: We are going to begin an in class project for Latin. We will be translating the Lord’s Prayer into Latin and creating art work to go with it. This trimester, each child needs to complete 9 Latin labs. Your child has completed ____ out of 3 labs. Latin Lab is available after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Vocabulary for the week is (same words as last week):

History:  Students will focus on geography next week. They will review and apply the key terms and the 5 themes of geography.

 

From the Office: Please remember that it is school policy that student’s cell phones must be turned in to the office in the morning. This is to ensure that cell phones do not get lost, used, or damaged throughout the day.

Language Arts:             We will begin to write our Past Papers next week. You child needs interview notes for at least 10 stories by Monday. The more stories they have, the easier this project will be. The stories are your families past up to your child’s life – age 5.  In addition, each child needs a CLEAN, one inch 3ring binder that has a clear front for pictures. This should be in class by the 28th as well.

            In grammar, they have a review packet I gave to them on Tuesday, March 20th. It is due March 27th. We will begin to study conjunctions and interjections.

 

Math:    The chapter 8 test will be on Tuesday. We reviewed on Friday and will review again on Monday. There will be no homework help this Tuesday.  On Friday, we will create angle art. I need donations of popsicle sticks.

Bible:  This week, we will continue our study of the books of the Bible. For Friday’s quiz, they must know the first 54 books of the Bible. We will practice by singing a song. Our Bible curriculum will be about Bullying- the causes, effects, and ways they can handle situations.

Language Arts:              Next week, we will officially be done with our Pirate Unit. We will begin our next major project, our own autobiographies. By Monday, March 26th, your child will need notes for at least 10 stories from their/your past. The more stories they have, the easier this project will be. I will be teaching them how to take interview notes on Wednesday and Thursday. They will begin to type their past paper on the 26th. In addition, each child needs a CLEAN, one inch 3ring binder that has a clear front for pictures. This should be in class by the 26th as well.

           

Math:    We will finish up Chapter 8 – Slope. On Friday, we will begin to review the chapter with a test on the 27th.

Science: 7th grade will be constructing models of the cardiopulmonary system.  On Wednesday, students will need to come to school with a sponge that can be cut into pieces.  We will also need at least five turkey basters to serve as our hearts.

 

History:  Students will participate in a series on learning centers that will look at daily life in the Middle Ages. A crossword puzzle will be distributed on Monday and it is to be completed for homework. The puzzle is due on Friday, 3/23.

Language Arts:              We are finishing our Pirate Report. They must have their final draft done by Wednesday. Our next project is the Autobiography project. We will begin to learn how to take interview notes in a few weeks.

                We are also going to begin our Treasure Island game this week. This is a game based on Risk that will take your child through all the curriculum of the year, to help prepare them for end of the year state testing.  

                We will also build our boats. Each student needs to bring in items they would like to use to build their own Hispaniola. They may not use Styrofoam or plastic containers.  I am still looking for a kiddie pool to borrow in the next couple of weeks. Please let me know if you have one.

           

Math:    We will continue Chapter 8 – Slope. Please check that your child has a Homework Spiral Notebook, pencils, red pens, and a calculator.

Bible:  This week, we will continue our study of the books of the Bible. For Friday’s quiz, they must know the first 40 books of the Bible. We will practice by singing a song. Our Bible curriculum will be about Bullying- the causes, effects, and ways they can handle situations.

 

Latin: This trimester, each child needs to complete 9 Latin labs. Your child has completed ____ out of 1 lab. Latin Lab is available after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays. No vocabulary this week due to Readers week.

The second draft must be typed, with a cover sheet, and a bibliography.  They will have had a total of 1.5 hours of class time to work on this before the due date. They are able to turn in their report as many times as they wish BEFORE the due date, for corrections or guidance from me.

                In addition, your child will have a pirate project every few weeks. This is an at home project. The third choice sheet went home today and is due Friday. We are also going to begin our Treasure Island game next week. Latin: This trimester, each child needs to complete 9 Latin labs. Latin Lab is available after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Vocabulary for the week is:

History:  Our study of the Middle Ages continues with a look at jousting and competing in Medieval Jeopardy.

Science: 7th grade will begin a new unit on the structure, function, and physical principles in living systems.  We will begin with the musculoskeletal system and how the different bones in the body compare with mechanical levers.

 

History:  Life on a manor continues as students design a fief and participate in interviews with a serf.

Speech Meet is Friday. I have given your child more than 7 hours of class time to memorize their speech. They need to know the whole speech by Friday. They will be graded on this.

February 13-17th

Family Appreciation Chapel is Wednesday at 8:40-10:30. All parents/grandparents/family friends are welcome to attend chapel and then a project back in the classroom. Don’t forget to have your child bring in a family story, copy of a picture, and a family Bible verse on Monday.          

                On Thursday, Carpenters Tool International will be on campus. All are welcome to join us in praise with CTI at 9am and/or 2pm.

            Instead of grammar this week, we will focus on our speeches for Speech Meet.

Bible:  There will be no Bible verse quiz this week- so that all of their memory can be focused on their speeches. As a class, we will focus on spiritual blindness. Each child needs to bring in some sort of blindfold on Monday, to use for the week.

Science: In science we will be looking back at the geologic time scale and examining mass extinctions.

Thank you for the massive amount of baby wipes! We collected over 430 packages!

On Wednesday, we will be going to Loaves Fishes to drop off the wipes. Please make sure your child wears their blue shirt and has money for lunch.

Math:    We have finished our study of Chapter 6 and will have an exam on Wednesday. Every child must have a calculator in class.

 

Bible:  Bible verse for the week is Lamentations 3:22-23. They must know the verse, location, author, and meaning for Friday’s quiz.  Next week, we will focus on our buddies- reading to them; create 100 day stories for them, etc…

 

Latin: Our Latin Program is on the fritz. We will replace our study of Latin with speech meet for the time being.

 

Science: We spent a little extra time on chapter 7, and the test has been moved to Tuesday, 2/7.  There will be an after school study session on Monday, 2/6.

 

History:  The Chapter 8 test will be given on Tuesday. This will be an open note test designed to summarize the main ideas of the chapter. We will organize our notes in class on Monday. On Wednesday students will began an interactive unit exploring life in the Middle Ages.

Language Arts:             On Monday, your child will choose which pirate they will write about for their research report. By Friday, they will need to have AT LEAST 3 sources copied and ready to go for class. PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THE BOOKSTORE OR LIBRARY TO GET BOOKS! I have plenty of pirate sources here at school and your child will have access to the lab at school to find on-line sources. Your child will need at least one book source and one periodical (magazine or dictionary). They may not use Wikipedia. They may use on-line periodicals. I have attached report time line for reference at home.

                In grammar, we are focusing on my favorite part of speech! Prepositions! YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!

                We are also beginning Speech Meet. Your child must find and have a piece approved by me by Wednesday. We will be practicing our speeches at school.

 

Math:    We are continuing our study of chapter 6.

 

Your child DID/DID NOT complete their Homeconnect Math Facts in a Flash for the week.

 

Bible:  Bible verse for the week is Philippians 4:13. They must know the verse, location, author, and  meaning for Friday’s quiz.  We will study Psalms and Proverbs.

 

Latin: Our Latin Program is on the fritz. We will replace our study of Latin with speech meet for the time being.

 

Science: We will be wrapping up chapter 7, The Age of Earth.  Our test will be on Thursday, 2/7.

 

History:  Chapter 8 continues with a study of Shogun and samurai. The test on Chapter 8 will be given on Tuesday, 2/7.
