Classroom Notes:
* Thank you, Mrs. Lassanske, for coming to our class with Grandmother’s Trunk.
Excellent presentation, and the children loved making the corn husk doll after.
* Rhoads School – docent is coming on Jan. 31 to our class to describe life in the
1800′s as a student. Field Trip Cost per student is $7.60, and needs to be paid by Fri.,
Feb. 3. Information is included in the folder about clothing & lunches (paper sack)
that are recommended to keep with the era of the 1800′s. Adults attending do not have
to pay the fee, but need to be dressed in prairie style clothing too. A waiver is included &
needs to be signed & returned on Mon., Jan. 30. It’s given to the schoolhouse docent.
* Orange pocket folders are being sent with the children & will travel daily with the assignment
notebook. Orange folder will hold homework papers. It comes back each morning. It appears
some have lost their original pocket folder for this purpose, & so we are adopting the all class
orange folder in hopes this will help the matter.
*Assignment notebooks – parents, please only sign the notebook if you see the work. Work left
left here is not to be signed off as seen. This continues through all of 3rd grade.

Science: This week we have been reviewing materials that magnets are attracted to and made some generalizations (magnets stick to metal – but not all metal). Next week we’ll continue learning about magnet strength and factors that can influence a magnet. To facilitate learning, ask your student what loadstone is (a natural magnet rock) and look on a map to find the North and South Pole.

Science: 1st-4th:
It is good to be back in science. I love the exploration and learning about God through His creation. We’ve spent this week just practicing our procedures and use of equipment. Next week we will be starting our Magnet and Electricity unit. Just a note for new families: we have a very hands-on science program here at St. Peter’s. Your student will rarely have homework. In the Friday notes, I will share what we have done and give suggestions for things you can do at home to further understanding of our concepts. Students keep all their work in a portfolio that goes home at the end of the unit. This will not only include their work, but ideas for home exploration and background information for you and your family. Due to feedback from last year, I will include the day they are going home. Evidently some students were not taking their portfolios home. I’m looking forward to a great year!
